My first acid trip changed my life.

It happened during a 3-month backpacking trip through Southeast Asia after graduating university. I met a South African man named Ryan at a hostel in Siem Reap, and we traveled to Sihanoukville together.

He offered me some LSD, and we journeyed for an entire day.

I remember being in the ocean, splashing around like little boys, feeling connected to something greater than myself.

It was as if I was touching the fabric of life. I could feel its texture. I could hear the hum of the universe.

Then, a woman walked by on the beach with her daughter. She stopped and gazed at us—and made a gesture that seemed that she was offering her child to us (...and come to find out, Sihanoukville is a hub for this sort of activity).

Even now, I feel deep disgust in my body as I recall that moment. On the brink of becoming a father myself, I can’t imagine what kind of desperation could lead someone to such a state.

Pure survival, I guess.

In that instant, something awakened within me. A determination. A mission. A drive to bring more fairness, more wellness, more goodness into the world.

It was on that beach that I had the spark of my first startup: Own Your Brilliance. I envisioned bringing together young innovators to co-create ventures that make an impact.

That seed grew.

We partnered with organizations like UN Women and Mastercard, and with universities, to empower young people to lead social innovation.

This was the start of my journey into heart-centered entrepreneurship.

What I experienced on that beach wasn’t something I thought. It was something I felt.

When you feel connected to something bigger than yourself...
When your actions and words aren't derived from thought...
When you can truly feel what others are feeling...
When compassion takes the lead...
When you just know...

This is the sacred heart-space.

We all have different energy centers we can operate from, but we’ve been conditioned to rely on logic above all else.

This is the result of a male-dominated, disconnected society that teaches us to think through every decision, in every classroom and every workplace.

But love? Love isn’t logical.

We’re caught in a karmic cycle—repeating the same patterns despite evolving conditions. But now, we are awakening.

Our eyes are opening. Our hearts are expanding. And it’s on each of us to step up, to set a new example for what’s possible.

For me, business has always been a vehicle for heart-centered impact at scale.

It’s easy to see capitalism as inherently flawed, even evil. But it’s just a system—a game. The problem isn’t the game itself but what happens when power is in the wrong hands.

As heart-centered entrepreneurs, we must understand this game. We must learn how money works, how to sell, and how to build systems. This is how we bring the visions in our hearts to life.

We must know the game to play the game.
We must play the game to change the game.

Business is both a game and a tool for change.

So, here’s my invitation to you:

Look ahead to 2025 and make it your year. Not just for your own growth, but for those you are here to serve.

Lead with your heart. Build with intention. And let’s change the game—together.
